The Basics: Advanced Search

In this article you'll learn about how to navigate around the AdvizorPro advanced Search at a basic level.

Where do I start?

Don't know where to start? Start small! Come up with a simple target market (for example: only RIAs, a zip code near you, a radius of that zip code, and the Advisors calling out "golf" on their bio page) and see what results populate!

Why are there Location filters under both the "Contacts" and "Companies" sections?

  • Contacts Location: where the advisor is actually located, living, and working.
  • Companies Location: where the firm is headquartered

How do I know what filters are included in my search?

To understand what filters are included in your search criteria, you can look for the blue horizontal bars right above the search results.

How do I search for a specific person or firm(s)?

There are a couple different ways that we can search for a specific person or firm in the AdvizorPro search:

  1. Use the "Search Person, Firm, CRD, or NPN" box at the top
  2. Open up the Companies > General Information filters and utilize the "Firm Name" filter (with either includes/excludes)

My search results seems off - what do I do?

If you have gone through the Advisor Pro advanced search, included filters, and come up with search results that just don't seem quite right, (maybe the numbers are off, maybe you're seeing certain firms or individuals included that you wanted excluded) - the best practice is to utilize the Reset button.

What does remove non-advisor firms and individuals mean?

We utilize certain context clues at both the firm and individual level to identify people or firms who are currently registered with either the SEC or FINRA, but are not in an actively practicing advisory role (money managers, front desk attendants with specific designations, etc...)

Please see below for the logic we use to decide if an advisory firm or individual fits our criteria for a known non advisor or firm:

Firm:

A firm must meet both of the following criteria:

1. Greater than 8% of assets in the following client categories defined by the SEC:

              - 'Investment Companies'

              - 'Other Pooled Vehicles'

              - 'Other investment advisers'

2. The sum of assets across the following client categories cannot exceed 50% and the number of accounts with these client categories must be less than or equal to ten:

              - 'Individuals'

              - 'Corporations'

              - 'HNW'

              - 'Retirement Plans'

Individual:

An individual must meet one of the following criteria:

1. Home Office Employees at LARGE firms (>= 1,000 advisors in the branch)

2. Registered reps without a series 6 or series 7

3. Advisors that hold one of the following licenses that indicate non-advisory roles: (
Series 11, Series 14, Series 14A, Series 16, Series 17, Series 21, Series 25, Series 27, Series 28, Series 39, Series 42, Series 62, Series 79, Series 82, Series 86, Series 87)
